Technology Fast

A couple months ago our little family did a week-long Technology Fast. This was in conjunction with our stake who was doing a media fast. No TV, Music, email, Facebook, or texting.... for a WEEK! unless it's  work or church related. I have to admit I was nervous.....really nervous.  I decided to keep a daily journal of our experience.

Day1- Here we Go! first thing I noticed is that when I have a free moment I find myself grabbing my phone to check my Facebook, email or instagram. It's complete habit I don't even realize I'm doing it. Yikes! this might be harder then I thought. The kids are doing great! My oldest Son (Who is 12) complained a little in the morning but that's it.

Day3- Quote from my oldest Son "It's been kind of hard, but technology's not that Cool"
I think he's trying to convince himself. As of me, I've been doing great and haven't cheated once. (I've been tempted though)... My husband who is a financial broker by trade watches TV and follows twitter accounts concerning the ups and downs of the market. Technically he could still watch TV and follow these accounts as it pertains to his works, but he chose not to.

Day6- Wow things are so peaceful around here. I can't remember the last time I felt this good, and my house is looking extra clean these days.  A Quote from my Husband "I feel so much lighter and not as weighed down. I have a renewed sense of clarity"

Day7- By the end of the week there was an incredible spirit in our home. A spirit of peace. My kids weren't arguing as much, my house had much more order, and I think all of us felt a closeness to our Heavenly Father that we haven't felt in awhile.
My 8 year old daughter said it best "Mom, I have really started to notice things more. Like on the way home today I noticed a tree. We drive past that tree everyday, but today it was a TREE! Big and beautiful. It made me look around a notice all the beautiful things Heavenly Father has created for us. I'm thankful, Mom."

Conclusion:

When we are still and quiet there is a beautiful peace that comes and surrounds us and settles in our hearts. Through that peace we feel the love of our Savior and we are reminded of who we really are.

AMERICA

 I am forever thankful!

In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine! #thankful #babyjude #america

"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the white House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness, You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism." -Erma Bombeck

I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th.

Cover of Sugarland's "Tonight"

For my anniversary last year I wanted to get my Husband something special, something he'd never forget and something from my heart. I thought it would be fun to record a song he loved and a song that expressed exactly how I feel.  Sugarland's "Tonight" is that song. Hope you enjoy it. There is much love floating around this song. I 100% sang it for him. Gifts from the heart are always the best. What are some of your favorite gifts you've given or received?

What is Christmas?

Jodi Lee singing a Christmas Compilation

"What is Christmas?

Faith and hope and love are the wellsprings of Christmas celebrations. These are gifts without price, the ornaments incapable of imitation, discovered only within oneself. They are not always easy to come by, but they are in unlimited supply.

This Christmas mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss Suspicion, and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Listen. Apologize if you are wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate. Be kind. Be gentle. Laugh a little. laugh a little more. Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Express your gratitude. Go to church. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of this earth. These are inklings of a vast category....a mere scathing of the surface.

They are simple things. You have heard them all before, but their influence has never been measured."

Merry Christmas Friends!
Love, Jodi lee

The Voice of a Child

With everything going on in the world right now it easy to get discouraged. Music can heal broken hearts. I have experienced it time and time again. My little girl has an incredible passion for music. When she was just 4 years old, she told me that "Music moves her soul." In Kindergarten she was given the award for "Future Broadway Star" I had no idea she was singing to all the kids in her class.  I must say I didn't really take her love of music that serious. I thought she was like every other young girl wanting to be the next Taylor Swift. I also thought that because she has been to many of my shows she was just reenacting what she saw. I think its really important that as a Mother I encourage my children to find their own path. It just so happens that music is her path too. It wasn't until I received an email from her first grade Teacher telling me she (My Daughter) was spending most of her recess time writing and singing songs to the kids. It was then that I realized this was her "Thing." Every time she performs and Sings she lights up. It brings a smile to my face.
